Borderlands 4 (BL4): White Chest Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

White Chests are the mid-tier loot caches of Borderlands 4 — silver-and-white containers that fill the quality gap between standard Weapon Containers and high-value Red Chests across every area of Kairos.

With a small but real chance to yield Legendary gear on any open, White Chests are worth engaging consistently throughout the campaign and endgame.

Every confirmed spawn point is tracked at exact coordinates on the complete Borderlands 4 interactive maps.

What White Chests Contain

White Chests consistently produce uncommon and rare-quality weapons, shields, ordnance, and class mods — one quality tier above Weapon Containers.

Every White Chest has a small chance to yield Legendary gear, making them worthwhile to open even on dedicated farming routes. All loot scales to the current Vault Hunter's level, so White Chests remain progressively relevant through the entire campaign.

Force Field Variants: Three Unlock Methods

Many White Chests are protected by energy barriers that must be deactivated before the chest is accessible:

  • Battery removal — some chests sit on trucks or platforms surrounded by power batteries wired to the barrier. Each battery glows green when active; pull it out or shoot it to cut the shield. The White Chest x2 in the back of a truck in Ruined Sumplands and the truck chest in Cuspid Climb both use this method.

  • Fuse box or power cable — follow the power cable leading from the force field to its source (a junction box or breaker switch on a nearby wall) and shoot or interact with it to kill the barrier.

  • Locust Gas canister — a Fades District White Chest sits behind a console door that only opens when a Locust Gas canister from the nearby area is used on it. A second Fades District White Chest requires the canister during the One Slimy Issue Side Mission.

Story-Mandatory and Mission-Gated Chests

A significant number of White Chests are only accessible in specific mission contexts:

Story-mandatory chests — two White Chests in the Welcome Center are flagged in the guide as "required for story progression." Opening them is part of the tutorial structure, not optional.

Mission-gated chests — many more are only reachable during or after specific Main Missions and Side Missions. Notable clusters include: two chests inside the No Place Like Home area in Hungering Plain, multiple chests during

One Fell Swoop and A Lot to Process in Dissected Plateau, chests inside Watershed Gate and Order Bunker interiors in Idolator's Noose, chests inside Shadow of the Mountain mission areas in Cuspid Climb, and mission-specific chests in Stoneblood Forest during His Vile Sanctum and Mob Mentality.

Every mission-gated entry carries its prerequisite cross-linked in the guide.

The Burrito Room: White Chest x4 in Upper Dominion

Destroying all 15 Burritos across Dominion City opens Dave's secret room in Upper Dominion — accessible behind the waterfall on the upper level.

Inside alongside Dave the Burrito and 2 Red Chests are 4 White Chests simultaneously, tracked as a single "White Chest x4" entry. This is the largest single-position White Chest yield in the guide.

Ancient Crawlers and High-Perch White Chests

Several White Chests spawn on top of Ancient Crawlers — the massive dormant creatures used as elevated platforms throughout Kairos.

The Hungering Plain Ancient Crawler carries 2 White Chests at its top. Idolator's Noose has 1 on top of an Ancient Crawler. The Low Leys has 1 at the top of its Ancient Crawler.

A "Possible Red Chest location" annotation flags several White Chest spawn points that can alternatively appear as Red Chests on different visits — these are particularly worth revisiting.

All White Chest Locations in Borderlands 4

Cuspid Climb has the highest single-area count with 25+ White Chests across its mountain huts, cave entrances, Order towers, excavation ledges, and mission-gated areas.

Hungering Plain has 15+, Stoneblood Forest and Coastal Bonescape each carry 10+, and Windspear and Umbral Foundry each carry 5+ dungeon and open-world entries.

Elpis Orbital Shatterfield carries 6 across caves, cliff edges, and lava-adjacent platforms on Pandora's moon.

All 130+ spawn points with sub-types, access conditions, and exact surface descriptions are in the interactive guide below and on our maps.
